Boiled Lollies
The Beechworth Sweet Co offers a large range of boiled lollies with genuine flavour, made with highly regarded traditions of master confectioners.
There is more to boiled lollies than just boiling them. According to the experts it is more about chemistry than confectionery. In the true tradition of making boiled lollies, our confectioners combine sugar, water and glucose and then knead the mix like bread to add flavour. Timing is extremely important and making good lollies is all about taste, texture and colour. Our boiled lollies are made with 1% fat and no salt.

Dutch Licorice
Dutch licorice is unique, not only because of the various flavours but also of its variety of shapes and sizes. The flavours range from Sweet to Salted.
Licorice is made from the roots of the Glycyrrhiza glabra, better known as the licorice plant. The fresh roots are boiled and vacuum packed in large lumps of raw licorice; the "blockjuice". These lumps are imported from Turkey, Egypt and Morocco and are then processed in traditional Dutch confectionery methods to produce the unique flavours synonymous with Dutch Licorice.
Licorice does not only taste good, it also has a health aspect.

Jelly Belly
JELLY BELLY jelly beans are tiny little beans packed with enormous flavour. Our extensive range of more than 30 flavours gives you plenty to choose from. A very popular feature of the JELLY BELLY jelly beans is the ability to put several in your mouth for delicious new taste sensations. There are a multitude of "recipes" for you to try - or just make your own.
Medley of Licorice
Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is a medicinal herb that dates back over 4000 years. Ancient clay tablets describe licorice as the "elixir of life" for its cure-all characteristics.
Recent research confirms these ancient claims by revealing that licorice: boosts the immune system; is a mild pain reliever; aids endurance; activates the liver; rejuvenates the pancreas; strengthens the respiratory system; aids digestion; cures ulcers and most recently has been found to fight tooth decay.
To top it all off licorice tastes good too. The botanical name for licorice actually means sweet root and is the key to the remarkable taste and medicinal properties of licorice. In the root of the licorice plant is a substance called glycyrrhizin, which is 50 times sweeter than cane sugar. This has made the root of the licorice plant a versatile and healthy flavouring in many foods and medicines.
Enjoy the variety of flavours and textures of this range whilst experiencing the health benefits of this ancient herb.

Specialty Chocolate
Chocolate is pure eating pleasure and it's more than just a food. Its name creates images of passion, riches, warmth, banquets, special occasions, and childhood hunts for Easter eggs. Despite that, it has a reputation as both a wonderful gift and a guilt-laden treat.
No one disputes that chocolate is around 28% fat and is not a food that can be eaten in large amounts. However, studies have shown that, when consumed as part of a balanced eating plan, chocolate in moderation does not increase blood cholesterol levels. Chocolate contains very little caffeine or cholesterol. Dark chocolate has a higher proportion of cocoa solids than milk chocolate, making it higher in iron and zinc, but it has less calcium and riboflavin because these nutrients come in milk. As the name suggests, milk chocolate has some of the cocoa solids replaced by milk.
Chocolate, fruit of the cacao tree, was brought to Europe by the Spaniards who learned its use from the Aztecs at the time of the invasion by the Spanish adventurer Herman Cortes in 1519. It was introduced into England in about 1657.
Chocolate inflames our senses, begs our forgiveness when given as a gift and soothes our libido when we are depressed. Let's face it chocolate is just about the most perfect creation on earth. With that in mind why not indulge yourself with some of the best chocolate creations we could find.
